Insight into the Directors vision Liam Smith has come a long way in his 29 years - from being bought home to his mums house in a police car. His three older brothers already spent most of their time boxing in the gym, but it wasn’t until Jimmy Albertini spotted Liam and asked when he would start training that he decided to take the sport seriously. He then began regularly training at the Rotunda ABC gym which was a stone’s throw from his house, and he soon refused to train anywhere else. This was a turning point for Liam, as he used the sport to maintain his focus and stay out of trouble on the streets. Liam was even fighting at the weekends, so would never have time to go out and go off the rails with his friends. Liam began going through the stages of learning how to refine his footwork, stance & agility. He was a skilled amateur, and the Rotunda gym helped him to win 80 fights in five years. In 2015, he became the first scouse boxer to win the World title for 22 years. Liam feels like he has overcome his obstacles and worked hard to be successful in attaining various boxing titles that were important personal goals for him to achieve. Now his focus lies in refining his style and perfecting his technique to ensure he continues to develop as a world class boxer, providing for his family as pay back for the support they have given him over the years.
