Embodied Explorations

In the summer of 2016 together with my companions Ane Beraza and Aina Guirao we were invited to Madrid to participate in Canícula program organized by INJUVE. In our short residency we elaborated an experimental project that ended up with a workshop, exhibition and a publication. We proposed an emotional and open to interpretation, manner to investigate a city. And to embody this investigation into an actual object that best represents it. During our process we created a fanzine to explain our methods and concepts. The project consisted of two parts. First is exploration. It means wandering around the city trying to look at it from another perspective, searching for and collecting fragments of its tissue that for some reason draw attention of the eye and have the capacity to tell a story. In the second part - experimentation - we created compositions with these fragments and embedded their stories into a material shape of a common local object, a traditional vase in this case. During this phase we experimented with mouldings, casting, resin and pigments, mixing materials and expecting the unexpected.
