“Empereur” is a Brussels punk band with whom I’m currently involved as a bass player, so this was an odd one to come with. Usually it's all about working for other people. The whole challenge is to understand and translate what they want/need. So this was, in a way, trying to understand and translate yourself, which is not as easy as it sounds.
The first step was about questioning the music. What is it all about? How does it sound? Paul (the singer) was all about “doing something from scratch” and wanted to put the emphasis on creating an energy and transcendence. So we came up with this big bangesque design. We tried to transcend the computer itself by asking it very very complex instructions to the point of close self explosion.
