Some people enjoy welcoming the new week in the comfort of their own home. Others enjoy being in the middle of a writhing mass of people, all revelling in a phenomenal performance accompanied with outstanding vocals. Amongst the countless UK concerts offering the most diverse and creative events, London Grammar, outshined the rest, soaring into the top ranks. The prospective line up was sewn to excellency, the trio accompanied by LA based band, LO MOON as their opening act. Earning their top spot by being forward thinkers producing high calibre talent, with a future to be at the forefront of this very industry. It was my first time seeing London Grammar live especially after patiently waiting for the release of new album, ‘Truth is a beautiful thing’. Leaving my expectations exceptionally high. Fortunately, they did not disappoint as fans left the O2 very satisfied. It had been four years since their last album a body of work that landed the group on numerous streaming playlists. In a very short time, singer HANNAH REID , guitarist DAN ROTHMAN and keyboard/beats major-domo DOMINIC “DOT” MAJOR became global stars, racking up more than 2m sales. The sizeable venue was packed to the brim with fans of all ages eager to hear the trio’s new music. Welcomed by a cheer of anticipation HANNAH, DAN, and DOM finally took to the stage, no words spoken HANNAH immediately had us in the palm of her hand, demonstrating her unblemished choral range from the silky low notes all the way up to the high notes. In a room with hundreds of people, swaying from each direction, at this point it was all about allowing yourself to be at one with the music, dreamy melodies moving down that minimal spectrum encompassed the whole room. It was almost as if the whole crowd was bewitched with the music being played, one notable thing was in the midst of all this wonder, no one had their phones out everyone present was in unison of thought, they were simply there for the music and to be there in the moment. HANNAH’s voice is just as incredible in person, if not more so, the energy the group delivers put together, is enticing and the crowd was kept satisfied as we were allowed the chance to endulge into some old classics. A few songs from ‘If You Wait’ intermittently dropped in, such as the beautifully melodic ‘Hey Now’, and probably their most popular hit ‘Strong’, they got the crowd moving and singing along with ease. The show was so intense that it brought many to tears, which in turn brought me to tears, so it is safe to say it was an emotional evening! The new tunes are undoubtedly as good as the debut album. The brilliant arrangement that the trio had clearly worked so hard to put together had a cathartic effect that portrayed their unadulterated talent. “It’s hard to believe that our second studio album is finally out. The three of us have put our hearts and soul into “Truth Is A Beautiful Thing”, with the intention of making an album for the fans who invested so much in us the past four years. Now we get the chance to perform this new music live, and we can’t wait to see you all soon.” – H, D & D The best element of London Grammar that came across in throughout the gig was how down-to-earth they are. This birthed a very personal performance that was in no way pretentious, symbolic of their pure, enchanting, authentic music. The band finished with ‘Metal & Dust’, their first ever EP – a tribute to how far they have come. London Grammar is an artistic force, and ‘Truth Is a Beautiful Thing’ further cements this truth, a pure and organic piece of work that has become a huge success, what is even more beautiful is seeing how humble and honest the group is. The seed of love towards London Grammar I had planted has now germinated…
