Everything Bur Words – thesis design and writing

  • Agata Dudzińska

It is very difficult to clearly define the characteristics of Belgian design. However, I discovered a new context for working as a graphic designer. In my thesis, I focused on ‘language’ and its many interpretations mostly in the context of concrete poetry. I tried to interpret Belgian visual poems without studying the language layer in depth. Concrete poetry originated with the concept of language seen as a group of individual letters rather than a unit as well as a page being a surface for typographical and visual investigation. Thus, I wrote and designed my thesis in the spirit of vivid (yet readable) avant-garde experiments. On the way to establishing the specificity of this period and its thorough historical analysis, the project used typewriter font and once again visual experiments that make reader follow the poetry with the eyes of a stranger.
