'Fear of Anthro-be-seen' (2020)

  • Halima Hussain

Fear of Anthro-be-seen’ is a piece that depicts a life-size figure almost ghost-like but supposedly be a full-length hijab. A black fabric decorated with a range of patterns and prints inspired by Islamic and weather patterns. It is constructed from chicken wire and fabric in the shape of the hijab which acts like a mannequin for the hijab. Along there is a white veil over this, which is decorated with embroidered cross shapes that suggest negative views from society. Inside the sculpture, is a collage of images and texts that depict my inner thoughts and feelings. This contrast between strong and gentle words used such as ‘islamophobia’ and ‘peace’ suggest these mixed thoughts of the fear.
