I was contacted by British Vogue last May to be part of a 3-months campaign in their 'Designer Profile' section as well as their new online platform Vogue Retail - a huge accomplishment and mile-stone for a business that I had been running solo for a year and a half. Somehow, without knowing - my creations, photography and brand biography were perfectly aligned with the issues' themes, which made me even prouder. AUGUST ISSUE (03/07/2020) For the covers of the August 2020 issue, British Vogue asked 14 of Britain’s most renowned artists and photographers to look to nature and capture their take on the idea of “Reset”. There are a total of 14 inspiring covers, featuring photography from the likes of Jamie Hawkesworth, David Bailey, and Tim Walker. Later in the year, an auction of original prints, kindly donated by the artists, will be held in aid of Covid-19 relief charities. In his Editor's letter, Edward Enninful reflects on the theme of reset in today's society: 'As the world rushes to find its feet again, we all need to be more mindful of the toll our previous pace of living took on nature'. This issue also contains the Vogue Beauty Awards 2020 winners. PILLWAA Designer Chloe Pillois founded her sustainable fashion brand after an eye-opening adventure to South East Asia. Using extraordinary fabrics Chloe brought home with her, each limited edition PILLWAA piece is handmade in London, stitched together with fond memories and valuable stories from her travels. About the design I chose to create this design for this British Vogue August Issue as I felt that I needed to showcase an item that would mirror both my personality and my brand values. The balloons represent both freedom and hope. It is a simple design that makes me smile and is a kind reminder to keep chasing my dreams on a personal and professional level. The fabrics used on this piece come from Inle Lake, Myanmar (yellow and blue) and Hoi An, Vietnam (pink). They were all bought when I was a young 22 year old free spirit roaming the globe with just a small 8kg backpack and my partner in crime. SEPTEMBER ISSUE (07/08/2020) For the first time in Vogue’s 128-year history, all 26 global editions have united to celebrate positive voices from around the world in a global portfolio of photography and a shared issue theme: Hope. On the cover of British Vogue are 20 remarkable activists including, Marcus Rashford and Adwoa Aboah, who are determined to make a difference to key issues from systemic racism to disability discrimination and domestic abuse, gender inequality and the climate crisis. PILLWAA Designer Chloe Pillois founded her brand with the aim of creating socially conscious wearable art. Using rare fabrics collected from around the world, each limited-edition PILLWAA piece is interwoven with valuable experiences and beliefs. Customers are offered the chance to co-design their own garms, adding identity to their wardrobe while creating clothes which tell a story of their own. About the design Free Woman: This particular design named 'Free Woman', was inspired by tribeswomen. I wanted to illustrate a strong, independent and limitless woman that is close to nature and therefore wildlife. Being rooted to nature has so much benefits yet too many take it for granted. Lockdown has reaffirmed something very strongly: my NEED to escape in nature every so often to reboot, reset and reconnect. Parrot: This parrot was created a few months back to represent hope. 2020 has been a very strange year for the entire World: witnessing the ongoing pandemic, a rise in movements especially BLM and more recently the Beirut incident that has been listed as the 3rd biggest explosion behind Hiroshima (1st) and Nagazaki (2nd). This particular bird, flying off the shoulder is a symbol of hope, pushing us all to get back on our two feet and support one another. This Parrot Sweatshirt is a reminder to keep our hopes high, to keep believing and to keep pushing. OCTOBER ISSUE (11/09/2020) Coming soon...
