Føroyar: The Faroe Islands Rebrand

  • Isobel Thomas

Craft, language and self sufficiency are integral to Faroese heritage. The brand was designed with craft tourism in mind, preventing the country from being overwhelmed and commercialised. Wool craft is a big focus of the brand as this reflects the nations' self sufficiency. Additionally, the brand name has been taken from the unique Faroese language- something that is crucial to their identity.

Once tourists have booked their holiday, they will receive a 'knit your own faroese sock kit' prior to travel. This enables them to kick start the authentic experience and have something to take with them that will keep them cosy during their stay.
Repeat cross stitched patterns appear throughout the brand, emphasising the idea of hand craft.
Physical stitiching are applied to various elements of the brand. This ties in with the tactile landscape and way of life in The Faroe Islands.
