My research that I explored for this project into the journey of fairy tales resulted in me realising about contemporary adaptations within fairy tale that are displaying the change in societal attitudes towards gender roles. Through this investigation I became familiar with four different aspects Folklore and Fairy Tale. I have studied the history and theory of fairy tale, Grimms Brothers tales and how gender roles and stereotypes are utilised within them. When exploring the history of the tales it became clear that fairy tales are on a journey and have been for decades. Therefore, the practical is another stepping stone with in the evolution of fairy tale. Moreover, investigating the theory of fairy tales enlightened the fact that fairy tales are used to help people make moral decision and guide people through life and show people how to deal with particular dilemmas within cultures and societies. Additionally they are very helpful with child development as they teach totality of the human mind, conscious and unconscious. As a result of this, fairy tales are impacting people and their lives therefore the practical I created is trying to promote positive ideologies to the world. Next, when exploring The Grimms Brothers tales it is clear that fairy tales are dark and are ever changing. My practical involves quotes from the Brothers Grimm tales but has adapted and modified them. Last of all, the investigation of gender with in fairy tale it can be seen that gender stereotyping is used frequently and woman are constantly viewed damsels in distress, who are weak and innocent. In spite of this my practical challenges the typical conventions of fairy tale and adapted the gender roles within the tales to create a gender balanced product.
