Food exploration: how has the hipster hijacked food culture?

  • Laura Worrall
BA Third Year Dissertation.
Exploration of food culture studies the relationship between food and the Hipster. Asking the question of why the development of today’s food industry between the UK and the US sits along side the growth of the Hipster and why has the Hipster taken such a explicit role in the popularity and exploitation of food culture? Examining the link between the two areas, and looking at the value of the Hipster, both historically and in today’s culture and its role in the development and the rapid growth of
food culture. This relationship and progression will be explored through looking at artistic platforms within hipster culture, focusing closely on art and food journals, food within the music industry and the
development of this shown through technology. All of which will be highlighting our transformed relationship to food in today’s art world. The importance of these artistic platforms within the food industry will be shown throughout as they progress with the development of food culture and its bond to the subcultural western millennial- generation Y.
