GEOLOGY & SEA FORMATIONS

  • Alice Blayden
Taking unusual inspiration from the subject matter of geology and sea formations, alongside the concept of abstract design and modern marbling based upon a theme for high-end interior market Autumn/Winter. Alice was influenced by weathered rock structures, tracing intricate patterns in nature and drawing organic textures caused by the formation of waves into mirrored repeats. The project consisted of traditional textile craft combined with contemporary textile processes, ranging from screen-printing to digital design and laser etching surfaces. Alice explored patterned distressed textures, translating lost formations into print designs. Neutral colour tones are the focal point, inspired by the sea and geology photography, brought to life with matte textures and reflective qualities through luminous metallic textures and tonal ombre values – similar to crashing waves and clear ocean.
