'Golden Age' - Amstel Tower, Amsterdam

  • Ian Kirkpatrick
I was asked by agency Arttenders to design a mural for the foyer of the new Amstel Tower skyscraper in Amsterdam. Client Provast Developers wanted the artwork to reference the famous murals in the next door Amstel Train Station, painted by Peter Alma in the 1930s. I used a similar colour pallette and iconographic style to tell a story about the history of transportation and architecture in the Netherlands, while incorporating references to Dutch masters. Provast also commissioned me to produce a limited edition silkscreen series of the design to give to their clients and associates. The mural in Amstel Tower was hand-painted by Dutch team Leo Mineur and was unveiled in June 2018, and was documented by Arttenders in a video.
