Roses are red, violets are blue, it’s been scientifically proven that colour can positively affect our mood! and whilst it isn't as life changing and great as the good news of the gospel, it is good news if you’ve been thinking about which colours to add to your wardrobe this season. Due to a need to tap into the optimistic and mood-boosting properties of bolder hues, colour is being dialed up for 2019. So what options does SS19 have lined up? Well, to start, you are going to be seeing a lot more of an orangey-pink shade of Coral (read on to find out why), the pastel shades of Sage Green and Lilac are still trending for the new season, and it’s time to get back to basics by building a foundation of Neutral tones that will become future heirlooms.

1. LIVING CORAL
The creative industries colour guru – Pantone - has crowned Living Coral the ‘Colour of the Year’ for its life-affirming properties and because it “symbolizes our innate need for optimism”. It’s a colour choice that is perfectly timed in today’s current climate of uncertainty. So, how can you can adopt it into your wardrobe, and bring an instant sense of joy to your day? Well, as brands from Apple to Burberry are tapping into the shade, you can start by adding a dash of the colour into your make-up kit through a lip palette, and then choose to wear several tones of the shade to create a statement come summer.

2. COLOUR BLOCKING
The trend for colour blocking is one where the traditional rules of how to wear colour don’t apply. Here is where you can go bold and experiment with eclectic combinations. Joseph dropped this trend way back when, with his Technicolor dreamcoat, so although this may sound daunting, it is safe to pair colours that are in the same family together, such as red and pink or orange and yellow.
An easy way to start introducing blocked colours into your everyday look is through accessories, or layering outerwear back with softer hues.

3. AN OCEAN OF BLUE
There is something to be said for wearing your emotions, and if calm is what you want to feel then consider investing in the blue spectrum. Whether it’s a pleated maxi dress in aqua or a top handle bag in pastel blue, this colour works to lull the mind and body into a state of serenity. You can pick from shades as vibrant as cobalt, that will take you through to high summer, or as deep as midnight navy, in textures like satin and suede as an update to classic leather.

4. SAGE GREEN
Taking over from utilitarian khaki this season, this warmer shade of green will work well as part of your neutral armour. The Sage Green palette is the perfect trans-seasonal hue, that can be used in an understated way that exudes a quiet confidence, such as when its worn in monochrome or brushed across the eyelids for an update on the smokey eye.

5. SOFT LILAC
Once the mainstay of your grandmothers wardrobe, lilac has done a 180 and is now firmly back on our radar. The colour has been trending for a number of seasons and has now started to hit peak, with a number of brands and retailers re-stocking the soft pastel shade. Seen on everything from chunky trainers to boyfriend sweaters, you can test the waters in a pair of multi-strap mules, or wear a boho blouse with flared (yes they’re back) jeans for a daytime look that’s ahead of the curve.

6. GET IN NEUTRAL
Neutrals are the new foundation that every woman should have in her collection. Once only associated with the conservative crowd, it took the Max Mara brand to send Halima Aden down its Fall 2017 runway – dressed from head-to-toe in the hue - to reignite our love for the colour. You shouldn’t just think in terms of camel though, as you can include shades of grey, chocolate, trench, and white into the mix, as they can be teamed together to create a timeless look, or choose a shade and combine it with complimentary accessories to exude a luxury vibe.
