Gut Feeling

  • Emma Scott
Gut Feeling is a follow on exhibition from my final degree project entitled 'The Low Fodmap Series.' This series portrayed an abstract and humourous representation of the struggles I faced whilst being placed on a very restrictive diet due to a digestive condition. Gut Feeling takes this theme one step further and aims to show and depict the emotions and experiences of others living with a digestive condition such as Crohns disease. The illustrations are not intended to be informative or medical in any way, instead they show the fear, frustration and anger that those living with these 'hidden illnesses' face everyday, with the underlying aim/theme to highlight that not all illnesses present themselves on the surface. Quite often a person can look well, and the public are completely unaware as to the mental and physical suffering this person endures. Digestive health is often a taboo subject, therefore it is also important within these pieces to show that this is something that effects the young as well as old, and is something to not be embarrassed about.
The project was in association with the Creative Youth Network, as part of their artistic excellence project.
