About me
A hard working and ambitious all-round creative,. I am a recent graduate of illustration from the University of The West of England where I achieved a 2:1 grade, however this is just a small section of my skills. Alongside having excellent English and writing skills, I have fantastic time management and organisation and can easily manage a large workload. I describe myself as an ‘all-round’ creative, as I love nothing more than applying my illustrative skills and creative brain to a number of different projects. From studying at degree level I have not only learned how to stick to tight deadlines and stay calm when under pressure, but also how to multi-task and think outside of the box to really extend and push an idea. I am also proficient in Adobe software, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. I have experience working as designer and editor for the online publication Tribe. This involved designing the magazine itself and therefore consequently I have developed skills in placing text and image in a way that is sophisticated with a polished finish. From studying illustration I am able to pick appropriate typography to suit the mood/content of the magazine or article. My attention to detail and creative mind, mean that I can interpret and pick apart text to produce relevant yet eye catching and aesthetically beautiful illustrations. My design work is now predominantly digital with more of a graphic design aesthetic. However I believe it retains the free thinking, playfulness and careful thought process that comes with illustration. I have experience illustrating for publishing and editorial purposes having designed a book cover for the Bristol Short Story competition, along with producing a board game entry for the child’s magazine Anorak. I am motivated and eager to do well, I am always looking for ways to improve myself and am hungry to learn. I also am a bit of a perfectionist and am not put off by precise, pedantic work. My experience as a writer and editor has given me an insight into the publishing world and I am keen to build myself a successful career within the creative arts industry utilising the skills I have learned both through my freelance/placement work and whilst studying. What I feel I would bring to a job is my ability to think on my feet, come up with innovative ideas, and what I feel is most important is that I am not afraid to take a risk and try something new. As a person I am friendly, approachable and merge well with others. However I would also describe myself as a natural born leader and I can easily see a project from beginning to end.
Projects
  • Gut Feeling
Gut FeelingGut Feeling is a follow on exhibition from my final degree project entitled 'The Low Fodmap Series.' This series portrayed an abstract and humourous representation of the struggles I faced whilst being placed on a very restrictive diet due to a digestive condition. Gut Feeling takes this theme one step further and aims to show and depict the emotions and experiences of others living with a digestive condition such as Crohns disease. The illustrations are not intended to be informative or medical
  • Personal Work
Personal WorkA selection of personal projects experimenting with typography and graphic design elements.
  • Illustrated Summer
Illustrated SummerIllustration Series depicting my transition from University into working life throughout the length of a Summer. Each Illustration portrays either an interesting event, feeling/emotion or just a mundane daily activity (such as getting my hair cut ) that have occurred during the days since leaving university. This is an ongoing project that will run until late August.
