Holding Up Half the Sky

Inspired by Mao Zedong's famous statement that "women hold up half the sky". This shoot focused on portraying women of colour as indeed strong and powerful yet feminine and soft. The Self-Love Journal tries to challenge the lack of representation in the media by centring women of colour in our shoots. The models are styled in blazers, bold jewellery and makeup that is inspired by 80s power dressing. Shot on film in a backdrop that is contrastingly soft and dream-like.
