Homerton University Hospital, Emergency Department – Wayfinding, Graphic Art, Information Design

The Homerton ED design strategy helps patients navigate the complex environment, making their experience less frustrating, and thereby reducing aggression towards staff. A set of colour coded graphic patterns make wayfinding intuitive and give each sub-department a sense of arrival. At each step in the care pathway info panels provide information to answer common patient frustrations – Where am I? What happens here? What happens next? A process map presents all sub-department identities and provides a clear overview of the whole Emergency Care Pathway, from check-in, to release or hospital admission.
