Innocence | a spoken word

  • Emmanuel Borges-Da-Silva

I filmed and recorded this near the beginning of lockdown with one goal in mind, capture innocence. Lockdown taught me so many things, but the biggest thing of all was how to be a child in spirit again. I went on so many walks and adventures, I have no clue how many miles I racked up . .But ultimately, these walks and time alone challenged me. I had to ask myself “what does it mean to be an adult?” Because with all the free time we had during lockdown most of us weren’t really “adulting” anymore, so many found themselves lost. We couldn’t compete with one another anymore, or stunt with the things we have amassed from work. Then I realised, being an adult is associated with what we do not who we are. To conclude, adults are just children with responsibilities. Responsibilities aren’t going anywhere, we all have them whether we like it or not but my prayer is that we wouldn’t allow them to rob us of having pure motives and a childlike spirit towards life and people.
