Innocence Slain – Digital Triptych, 2020

  • Treyvond Thomas

I created these artworks as a digital triptych. I wanted to use previous artworks to inform the ones that followed, including easter eggs and sampling elements already used to place my figures in a universe that is purely Werkstatt Grief.

Taut Well
A pillowy, faceless figure, bound by rope. Its flesh billows over the cord, constricted and stretched to a point of discomfort. Looks good enough to eat, no?

A Predator of Refined Taste

The figure from the previous artwork has been caught and dissected. A tasty treat for a predator with a sophisticated palate. Soundtrack: April Indoors by Barcelona based musician, Lady Muck.
Spilled Blood
The predator has been pricked by the instrument of its over-consumption. It crawled into a private space to die. What a shame!

This is the third artwork from my Innocence Slain artwork, part of a digital triptych that I created. For this, I let each previous artwork inform the one that followed it, creating narrative through references to scenes and situations that had already happened in this made up world. This cements the scenarios in a world that is comprehensive and complex. I wanted to use bright colours and inflated shapes to convey a sense of fun and child-like innocence, with the viewer only noticing that it is a more sinister scene upon closer inspection.
