Don’t waste food. It’s far too easy to let food go to waste so here are some ways you can prevent this. Firstly, plan your meals. This will help you to know exactly how much food you’re going to need. Secondly, when you overcook pasta for example, add it to some sauce for tomorrow’s lunch – basically, use up your leftovers! Save your wallet, and the planet. When we waste food and throw it away, it is thrown into a landfill. From there, it produces a large amount of methane which literally steals carbon out of our air. When food shopping, it’s worth thinking twice about what you’re actually going to need and think about how you can incorporate your leftovers into another meal.
Eat less meat. Eating less meat is better for health, animal welfare and climate change. The impact farming meat has on the environment is enormous. Forests are destroyed to produce industrial meat which causes mass amounts of carbon dioxide to be released into the atmosphere. This rapidly accelerates global warming. So, giving up meat, even for a day or two out of your week, can have a huge impact.
Order less stuff. Unfortunately, we’ve abused our planet for far too long. It’s time to stop ordering things that we don’t really need. It hurts our wallets and our planet. Stop ordering things for the sake of it – it’s one of the most effective ways that you can reduce waste.
Stop buying new clothes. Buying brand new clothes is ‘out of fashion’ now. More and more people are buying clothes secondhand through apps like Depop, Vinted or just a thrift shop! Not only will it save you a significant amount of money, but you’re also not supporting fast fashion. A win-win, right? Also, used clothes reduce the environmental impact by limiting CO² emissions. So, why buy brand new clothes? It’s bad for your wallet and bad for your environment!
