INSTAR

INSTAR is a mobile application that aims to help people at the risk of retrenchment by enhancing their competitive edge in their respective industries and give them the relevant skills that they might need to be reemployed again in the future. INSTAR hopes to make learning simple and accessible for users, with an easy certification process that is recognised by industry standards and certified by WSQ (Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications).

Part of my final year project for my Diploma in Singapore, my group designed an application for users to equip themselves with new skills that that would aid them in finding a new job or new position in the same company. This idea stemmed from the increaing retrenchment rates in Singapore, especially among adults aged 47 and above. We found that the main problem is that they were not able to find resources to keep themselves in pace with the younger workers or that they did not have the opportunity to upgrade their skills or explore new skills. With that in mind, we came up with INSTAR. Users would be able to enrol for e-courses through the application and going for assessments that have been recognised by industry standards or credited by governements. Employers are able to be part of this process by recommending courses for their employees and tracking their process.
As an extension of this mobile application, we also created a networking event for users to meet one another and for industry professionals to give talks. The event would also be a platform for users to explore new industries and expand their connections.
