INVISIBLE PLASTICS

  • Linda Scerpella

My final year project was Invisible Plastics. With this project I was aiming to create an awareness campaign based around less visible and known plastic issues such as microplastics and toxins. The main part of the campaign is based around short videos that explain inidividual and specific issues related to plastics, but in a direct and simple way. The tone and style of the animation is quite light, in order to involve the viewers, rather than scare them off with “ugly” images and facts. I have managed to create two videos which expose the microplastics going up the food chain, all the way to us and the way microfibres are released during laundry from synthtetic clothes.

Below you can see some images of stages I went through in order to create the videos.
The second part of the campaign is formed by mock ups of possible merchandise (such as tote bags and water bottle) and printed material (such as posters and postcards). Examples of this can be seen below.
Homemade bars of soap shaped as fish with biodegradable glitter inside to represent microplastics.
