IONA WINES

“There is a unique phenomenon that happens at Iona with the combination of the short distance from the freezing Atlantic Ocean and the rapid increase in altitude which causes the prevailing South East wind to roll across the vines, forming misty clouds that blanket the farm on warm days.” Out of this ‘phenomenon’, the opportunity arose to create the Iona Monopole brand comprising of three ranges - Limited Release; Elgin Highlands and Ten Barrel. The Iona Monopole Limited Release wines were named according to the blocks in which their grapes are grown: namely the Fynbos Chardonnay, Kloof Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and Kroon Pinot Noir. The Fynbos vineyard neighbours the surrounding fynbos, the Kloof vines are sheltered from the wind and the Kroon vineyards are the highest on Iona. As eloquent as these vineyards are we were able to take a minimalistic approach to the Limited Release labels to convey a clear message through refined typography and production specifications. The neck tag displays heraldry graphics added to the strong sense of ownership that ties the name back to its Scottish roots through the family crest. The idea for the Elgin Highlands range was to modestly hero the Iona brand and to create additional flow through ‘sense of place’ with the contour lines.
