Kokkinoyia Copper Mine - Cyprus

  • Matt Emmett
The Kokkinoyia Copper Mine was in operation from 1973 to 1979. It lies in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus on the outskirts of Mitsero. The mine has been abandoned since 1979 and the structures are decaying heavily. Behind the winding house a low tunnel heads into the mountain but only extends for about 100m until a collapse is met, presumably sealed by explosives to keep the public safe. Photographed in August 2018.
