Kumartuli

Kumartuli is the traditional potter’s quarter in the old city area of Calcutta. While walking through the narrow roads you are transported to a completely different realm. The artists in Kumartuli are seen busy making the idols of Durga, the warrior goddess in different forms depicting different stories.
A mixture of sculptures representing different stories of Durga is made. The most captivating part was the contrast between the new models that are being made and the old sculpts that are forgotten and in ruins.
