L'AMOUR BRUT

NSFW Last Spring, Parisian label L'AMOUR BRUT contacted me for the first-ever collection shoot. They wanted something real —love with a touch of rawness— I wanted to create something distinctly queer. I chose to reference the work of Alvin Baltrop and Robert Mapplethorpe. So I grabbed a couple of friends, tossed them on a mattress we had found on the street the week before and I used a point and shoot camera to preserve the clandestine spirit. When I got the film developed, some shots had these psychedelic patterns, so I used them as backgrounds to amp up the dreamy, romantic side. It's all about that clash between the sweet and the real, blending love and obscenity in one shot. I hope that the series stands as a quiet statement, asserting the ongoing imperative to keep integrating queer narratives in the fabric of the mainstream, a reminder of the enduring presence and relevance of our stories.
