Sandwiched between China and Russia, Mongolia is a landlocked country with a population of 3 million, home to a large nomadic community and the Gobi Desert. The dusty capital city, Ulaanbaatar, is surrounded by mountains and is home to 45% of Mongolia's population. The remaining population is scattered around the country, which is approximately 4 times larger than Germany. We travelled to the ancient capital of Kharkhorum, driving through mountain passes and staying in the traditional home of a nomadic family. With temperatures dipping to -20°C at night in early March, we were told that in past years, temperatures fell as low as -50°C and many livestock had died, frozen to the ground. The family tend to their livestock all day, which consists of sheep, goats and camels, and move to different locations with all their belongings depending on their surroundings. We then drove to Hustai National Park, located in the Töv Province, home to the Przewalski's horses - Mongolian's wild horses.
