As part of Côte d'Ivoire's 60th *Independence* Day I made some edits of photos/scans from my trip to Côte d'Ivoire of their popular treats. 1 - G/Bofloto also known as Beignets or Galettes are essentially doughnuts, massively popular in Côte d’Ivoire and in West Africa. They are breakfast specialties and are often made as grignoter (nibbles/snacks). They can be served plain or coated in sugar. As quoted by my Aunt Élodie who'd made it in the photo, she like others, add only a little bit or none at all unlike myself a sweet tooth person. 2- Second image are some attractive pastries and some scans of cheap kids biscuit/chocolate wrappers I collected. The vibrancy of colours just looked incredible scanned against each other. 3- Bissap is a prominent craving in Côte d’Ivoire especially in it’s sweltering heat. A refreshing privileged beverage made from dried hibiscus flowers (known as Roselle) traditionally served cold or frozen. There are different variations of Bissap in West Africa, also in the Caribbean and parts of Asia. In this case, Bissap is made by boiling the hibiscus flowers in water along with mint leaves which is later strained. Additionally, it can be combined with strawberry essence and brown or vanilla sugar. For a sweet tooth, like myself, it’s addictive. Impeccably sweet and super beneficial for your health. You will never not find stalls selling Bissap and Beignets in Côte d’Ivoire, it’s impossible to miss!
