During the early onset of COVID-19, TWU’s extra-curricular student leadership program suffered from low application numbers and poor diversity amongst accepted applicants. Its target audience (1st to 2nd-year students) was largely remote and had not experienced campus life. Consequently, many had developed a low interest in campus culture and did not view extra-curricular activities as necessary to their student experience. We needed to go with the flow and revamp the student leadership program. With a renewed focus on the self-development pillar of the program, the content hinged on inspiring students to believe that this invaluable student experience could help them expand their impact, strengthen their character, and connect with like-minded peers and mentors.
