LIFF is the largest film festival outside London. Founded in 1987, it is held in November at various venues throughout Leeds,Yorkshire. In 2015, the festival welcomed over 40,000 visitors and showed over 300 films from around the world, shorts and features, commercial and independent. It in my opinion has shaped the city in terms of entertainment culture. The 30th anniversary edition of Leeds International Film Festival took place 3–17 November 2016. This shows the traditional value it has and how important it is to the city. It is backed by the Leeds City Council, today Leeds is a major centre for film production and exhibition. A qualifying event for the BAFTAs and the Oscars, Leeds International Film Festival is a national celebration of global filmmaking culture.
