A collaborative project between myself and Photography student Sara Todorova. - Let Go: A journey of self-discovery during isolation through a series of self-portraits showing the art of the body expressing itself. It explores the importance of letting ourselves slow down and accepting emotions like anger, sadness, disappointment and fear, learning to let them go, rather than fighting them. “I believe we are only human and there is nothing wrong with showing what and how we truly feel, to not fear our negative emotions and to accept them not as part of ourselves, but as visitors.” - Sara Todorova. The photographs have been sequenced to show the journey of Sara’s body expressing itself. The portraits naturally created an upwards incline, so they were positioned to allow the viewer to follow the rising direction of the photographic imagery. It begins by fighting the chaos felt by the overwhelming emotions during isolation and concludes with Sara’s back against the wall as she slowly accepts her emotions and lets them be. The concept has been subtly communicated to reflect the confused and distorted experiences felt during these times. A series of posters were created alongside the zine to reflect these overwhelming, confusing and distorted experiences and emotions, one more subtle than the other, representing the different intensities of these emotions.
