Longley Park Sixth Form Re-brand

  • Sarah Twelves

Longley Park are a Sheffield sixth form who are passionate about helping each student to focus on and achieve their individual goals. They wanted a refreshed new brand identity that included a logo, colours, fonts and imagery. Brands the sixth form liked were visually articulated clearly and simply. They liked the idea of a mark that has flexibility across platforms, has the possibility to be used without text and to be used as a stacked logo. Starting with an emphasis on focus, my ideas stemmed from the shapes of the points in a cameras viewfinder and how this could be incorporated in the schools initials. My approach was thoughtful and playful as well as minimal and abstract. It was a must for there to be some sort of visual link between the new brand and the Brigantia Learning Trust. My chosen colour palette came from two selected colours from the logos of other colleges in the trust; a royal blue to keep a sense of strength but feeling natural at the same time and the yellow/gold for a reflection of achievement. (Mock brief completed on internship at Born+Raised, Sheffield, UK)

The use of photography was to be kept relaxed and natural for staff and students. Staff photography felt appropriate to be based in the workplace to keep a level of professionalism whereas student photography could be captured in more natural settings of the sixth form. The use of the logo really emphasises how the sixth form has a focus on both staff and students by going back to my first initial idea of using the shape of a cameras viewfinder as well as giving more potential to the use of type within the photography.
