This mural was created as part of aproject commissioned by art organisation Devonshire Collective based in Eastbourne. For the project, I worked in collaboration with their Youth Collective and Sanctuary, a safe space offering community, connection and council for people seeking refuge. The artwork was created using ideas generated through workshops I did with the Youth Collective as well as people using Sanctuary's services. A few of the very talented people from Sanctuary also helped me paint the mural. The short title for the mural is 'Love, Empathy, Respect, Dignity' but the full title is 'Refugees deserve Love, Empathy, Respect and Dignity too'. My aim with the mural was to counteract the constant negative rethoric politicians and mainstream media in the UK use to talk about refugees, migrants and asylum seekers. The message behind the mural is also that those are feelings and values everybody deserve and not just a select few people who are deemed more worthy. The artwork was commissioned as part of Eastbourne Alive which clebreated the Turner Prize being hosted in Eastbourne last year (2023)
