Mantis Systems

  • Danielle Knight

Mantis Systems is a fictional start-up developed by Superflux for the United Nations Development Programme, NESTA and Bond. The organisation was created as a provocation for the international development sector in response to a culture of risk aversion and short-term thinking. The organisation was presented at an exhibition booth at the 2018 Bond conference and 'revealed' during a workshop with participants to unpack some of the issues and opportunities for AI in international development. I was the key researcher on this project responsible for writing fiction content and case studies, and collecting and analysing the research outcomes. I was also the project manager for this work and took part in a two day long live performance as an 'employee' of Mantis Systems interacting with visitors at the Bond conference where this work was presented.
