Matahari Beach Club, Bali

  • Laura Lutz
The idea for this project derived from the designers love for this beautiful spot on earth and her great interest in Lounge bar culture and music. The intention was to create a place where people from all over the world can get together and simply relax and enjoy life watching the stunning sunset over the ocean. The design is strongly inspired by the local culture and natural elements of the island. By strictly using local materials the designer aimed to lower the impact of construction to a
minimum. The design was strongly inspired by the Frangipani tree, one of the symbols for balinese Hindus used for offerings to the Gods. The nearly completely open pavilion structure of the premise allows for free air circulation and cooling during the hot summer days. Overhanging roofs serve as rain protection.
