Mechanical Art

  • Mitra Najafi
Mitra Najafi’s work aims to transform the masculine and industrial characteristics of mechanical forms into more decorative, feminine designs influenced by Art Deco. Mitra’s designs are generated through a range of objects such as bikes, engines and assorted metals, creating imagery from observational drawings and then experimenting with printmaking techniques and handcraft in order to create a collection of designs that are open to interpretation and that may be used in an interior setting. The colour palette used consists of mainly neutral tones to create a balance with the detailed nature of the designs. Mitra uses a range of mixed mediums and surfaces such as wood and leather to create a variety of textures and shapes that contribute to a mechanical structure, with the intention of exposing intricate details that are visible within these constructions to signify a broader and alternative representation of mechanics.
