Medusa

Acrylic and oil on canvas, 150x100cm Medusa was inspired by old cigarette ads from 50's and 60's. You can see on the painting two sentences, one in English saying "smoke a fresh cigarette, free your inner beast" and another in Polish "palenie tytoniu powoduje raka i choroby serca" which means " smoking causes cancer and heart diseases ", showing how as a population we are making bad decisions, blindly following one another.  I like to put different styles together, so you have vivid graphic optical background and painterly figure coming out of it. The whole picture is vibrant and keeps your attention. There are also aggressive elements to it, like bright purple snakes. Juxtaposed, medusa as a seductive Gorgon who could seduce you to look at her and then she turned you in to a stone and Cigarettes as well as seductive and could be result of your slow death.  Medusa's head are said to represent the natural cycle of life, symbolising rebirth and death.
