Memory Quilt (2016)

  • Hannah Plant
Memory Quilt reflects a fascination with the inter-connectivity and layers of history contained within archives. The continual process of ripping, cropping, printing and rendering have left the information as copies, far removed from their originals, mirroring the journey and deterioration of archival material. The videos draw influence from various historically significant locations around Medway, including St. Bartholomew's Hospital and Chatham Dockyard. The sounds perhaps an echo of past events that this historic house has been a living witness to.
Memory Quilt was exhibited in Loading..., a group exhibition curated by current third year SMFA students from the University of Kent in Medway. The exhibtion took place in December 2016 at Chatham House, a disused Georgian mansion located on Rochester High Street.
