Mike G's Twitch Branding

  • Mat Roff

In 2018, I was commissioned by Twitch streamer, Mike G to create the branding to mark the one year anniversary of his channel launch. I created a logo, banner, buttons, assets and icons for his broadcasting set up and his official Twitch page. He has returned the channel back to it's old design, but you can see the original concepts, storyboards, and illustrations below.

When developing ideas for Mike's introduction, be right back, and stream has ended screens - we explored a few concepts including an animated hand grabbing the PlayStation controller, smashing it and placing a BRB sign next to it to symbolise each chapter of his broadcasts.
Mike wanted to keep the graphic simple, so we instead settled on his desk set up.
This had to not only look good, but it had to tell you about Mike, the games he played and also how the audience interacted with him during his streams...
This was the final illustration for the three screens.
We added slight differences such as the headphones on the computer monitor for the BRB design, as well as adding different text bubbles, emotes and icons to express what the audience could be saying if Mike left, or was just about to start broadcasting.
These illustrated assets were separated and then added using After Effects, along with an animated transition by Mike himself to link the live stream to these animated images...
Mike also commissioned a logo design featuring a portrait of himself, so we experimented with the style of the design to keep it as clear and simple as possible.
A few variations were created for different platforms, so not just on his streaming page, but also on his social media pages like Twitter and Instagram...
