Mima

A live brief for mima (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Modern Art) for their opening of the contemporary jewellery collection to the public.

The design is based on the unique shapes and materials the contemporary jewellery is made from and I created 213 different pieces to represent every item in the mima's jewellery collection.

The other part of the brief was to bring ownership of the collection back to the people and to do this I made a way for which everyone can contribute to the collection and feel part of it. The invites are sent out with the instruction that each shaped material is their key back to the collection. Upon the return the piece is collected and turned into a big community jewellery piece and then displayed within mima.

Mima later asked me to reproduce this for the actual opening and have continued to contact me to produce more work for their jewellery gallery opening.

The invites were later passed out at a contemporary jewellery festival called Schmuck in Munich. The opening of the gallery is in October 2014 where we await the return of the people and their tiny contributions to the collection.
