A series created for The Music Rooms exhibition at Milton Keynes Gallery: Moments of Integrity My response was a series of posters dedicated to the forgotten black figures in Britain's history who’s accomplishments and sacrifices inspired many others. We saw during the BLM protests in 2020 that Britain places a lot of value in their history and the statutes that represent famous figures (figures who’s racists pasts we conveniently forgotten). They are used to highlight and honour their contributions to society but it is rare for black people to see themselves in these statues despite their long history within Britain. ‘Moments of Integrity’ is therefore my own way of honouring the unknown heroes in black British history who’s contributions have helped pave the way for many black Brits who came after them in industries we often neglect.
