MOOD OF THE NATION A/W 2020

  • Warren Reilly

We live in uncertain times and in the current political climate our nation is overwhelmed with unanswered questions. My Final Major project entitled “Mood of the Nation” was created to capture the social and political turmoil that we are experiencing within this country at present and the relevance of "Britishness" in the modern world. Methods such as drawing, painting and experimental mark-making were created into artworks printed digitally or by screen printing. These pieces then informed my design work. Designs of printed, spray-painted and stitched textile surfaces were refined and used in the creation of the fashion-based outcomes. Through the use of experimental drawing and mark making, I have translated these emotions, as well as my own thoughts onto cloth through various fabrication techniques. Working within a fashion based context, I have developed an avant-garde, conceptual, 5 look fashion collection, presented both on the catwalk and in an editorial format. Finally, the use of photography has enabled the true narrative of the project to be told, creating a world in which the viewer can understand the true mood which surrounds British identity at present.
