An enquiry into why Nas — one of the greatest rappers of all time — has never won a Grammy.
In this book, I explore and celebrate Nas’ 21 year long career, highlighting how influential his music has been in order to show how outrageous it is that he is it yet to win a Grammy award.
2014 was the 20th anniversary of Nas’ game-changing debut Illmatic. Illmatic was released during one of the most exciting times in hip hop history - the Golden Age of Hip Hop.
The music during this period was eclectic, innovative, experimental, highly diverse and heavily sampled. Using experimental typography and layout I visually emulate these characteristics throughout ‘nasty but nyc’.
Elastic band binding is used to allow the reader to take the book apart and put it back together in any order they want; almost as if they are remixing the book. The book also comes with two fold out posters.
