The National Saturday Club does vital work, providing free creative education to young people across the UK, many of whom would not otherwise have access to the subjects, teaching and facilities they are offered while taking part in the Club’s year-long programmes. For the past two years, I have worked with the Club to produce a series of features and interviews for the organisation's Annual Review, whose first edition (2021-22) was designed by Pentagram and second edition (2022-23) by Tom McEvoy of Studio Quercus. The experiences that young people have in the National Saturday Club's various creative programmes, spanning Art&Design, Science&Engineering, Fashion&Business, Craft&Making, Film&Screen, Writing&Talking, Performance&Theatre and Society&Change, are truly transformative. Our contributors all give their perspectives on why helping young people from all backgrounds develop the confidence and skills that will allow them to progress to further study and rewarding careers is so critical – creative education, delivered with imagination in an encouraging environment, changes lives.
