Launched on 11th February 2020, ‘Nelson Mandela: 30 Years of Freedom’, celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) and four South-African institutions. Discover twelve iconic moments after Mandela’s release, as captured by photographer Gideon Mendel. Human rights activist Zulaikha Patel, talk show host Songezo Mabece and Mandela’s personal archivist Verne Harris talking on the importance of 11 February in 1990 and today. Explore a new Street View of Cape Town City Hall balcony (today immortalised with his statue), where Mandela gave his first public address after release in 1990.
