New Chinatown

New Chinatown was my project for degree show of MA Documentary Photography and Photojournalism in University of Westminster.
Chinatown is not only a geographical landscape but also an ideology, existing where Chinese individuals assemble. As Chinese has become the largest ethnic group among worldwide international students, now the term “Chinatown” can represent brotherhood, a cultural divide between Chinese and non-Chinese. Bedroom, a private space, can function as a shelter to bring them the sense of security when studying abroad. But when it comes to Chinese, their bedrooms are more like sanctuaries to protect them from the cultural shocks, preserving a lifestyle that they once had in their motherland, China.
