Since its first event in 1985, New Designers has been the UK’s preeminent showcase for emerging talent across the design sector. It brings together more than 3,000 of the most promising graduate designers – the cream of the UK’s top creative courses. Returning to the Business Design Centre in London on 27 June to 7 July 2018, the show is a hotbed of trends, innovation and the ideas of tomorrow. It’s the must-see event for industry specialists and lay design aficionados alike, who flock to Islington to spot the next big thing, in jewellery, fashion, craft, graphics, illustration furniture, gaming, new media, apps and technology. For graduates, New Designers kickstarts careers by putting them face-to-face with potential employers – previous editions have launched the likes of Thomas Heatherwick and Bethan Gray into the design world. The show also curates a series of awards, including cash prizes, internships and jobs from sponsors. The show’s programme features talks and workshops led by the industry’s top thinkers, as well as One Year On – an exhibition of the best creative studios in their first year of business. Selected by industry buyer and designer Rheanna Lingham, the One Year One exhibitors undertake pre-show mentoring in subjects such as pricing and PR – just one example of New Designers’ commitment to supporting the next generation of designers.
