For this workshop, I collaborated with Nike and Adwoa Aboah, Founder of GURLS TALK on their latest campaign, which focuses on the joy of being a Work in Progress. I hosted a 3-hour workshop for 30 people, providing practical tips, advice and exercises to help everyone involved reject the pressures of being perfect and embrace their imperfections. It’s about learning from losses and celebrating even the smallest of wins, week in and week out. We began with an emotion scoring exercise which is great to gauge how everyone is feeling, both at the start and end of the session — this is one of many techniques I encourage everyone to use in daily life. A non-cringe icebreaker challenge helped bring the group together and created a relaxing, friendly and safe space for us to move into a motivating and informative talk about perfectionism in society and what that means to them. I provided facts and anecdotes to encourage everyone to reflect on their own experiences and share their own perspectives on progress and failure, which lead into an analytical and varied group discussion. Through worksheets, discussions and coaching techniques I supported the group, both individually and as a team to help them uncover personal and valuable insights. My aim was to provide tools for sustainable growth that can be used time and time again in order to help them better understand themselves. As a group, we learned how to accept limitations and learn from failures and losses. Being honest about what failure is, exposing it and feeling comfortable with vulnerability and limitations. I also guided everyone on how to reposition imperfections into a positive light, explaining how we are conditioned around strengths and weaknesses. We touched upon our aims in life and individual purpose which can keep you motivated and on track when imperfections come into play. Lastly, I offered a psychological insight into ways we can process emotions associated with failure, such as feeling useless or a loss of dignity. I explained what happens to our brains when we experience rejection and presented long-lasting tools and techniques to help manage those complex feelings. My takeaway: Being asked to host a workshop for one of my favourite brands, (one of the biggest sports brands in the world, yikes) for a campaign with Adwoa Aboah was just insane. I received great, positive feedback and everyone got stuck in and learnt so much about themselves. They left with more self-confidence, a better understanding of how they work and an overall sense of clarity.
