The salon is a monthly event where two local writers read engaging stories. My role with the salon includes liaising with authors and talent, researching; bidding/acquiring and managing funding; maintaining relationships with venues; marketing, event organization, presenting. As part of my role in the salon I have created a writer-in-residence program and a volunteer coordinator position. As co-director I managed marketing including building and developing elements of the social media campaign. I have also applied for funding and managed the budget of over 5,000 for 2015-2016 which included funding from three different sources. Throughout the salon’s first season I organized and co-hosted 14 salons featuring 30 writers, five local musicians, two local caterers and an estimated audience of 700.
We have launched a Patreon to bring the salon back and to offer opportunities for emerging writers. We will be commissioning both emerging and published writers for an upcoming anthology.
