Noughts + Crosses - Social Media Campaign

  • Emily Mitchinson

I loved leading on the social campaign for Noughts + Crosses, the hotly-anticipated TV adaptation of Malorie Blackman's novel. We got creative to drive awareness of this brand new BBC One drama, and my responsibilities on the project included; idea generation, creating and editing assets, briefing in other editors and feeding back on their work, commissioning external content creators, live-tweeting, publishing, community management, building boosts for paid media and data analysis. Overall, the campaign generated more than 9 million views. Here are some of my favourite assets from across the campaign...

TRAILER
BTS CONTENT WITH STORMZY

We utilised PTK footage of guest star Stormzy recorded on the set of Noughts + Crosses to create a bespoke opening for our social trailer and a stand alone interview piece about his experience filming.

ILLUSTRATORS

We commissioned several Black British artists to create imagery of the key characters in Noughts and Crosses for the @BBCiPlayer Instagram account.
BAMALAM'S RAP-UP

To drive people to continue watching the series, we commissioned content creator Bamalam to sum up everything that had happened so far... by writing a rap.

LIVE TWEET-ALONG

This simple but effective tweet summed up the premise of the programme and Malorie Blackman's world of Albion in a single GIF.
MAKING A SCENE

This bespoke piece of social content saw Jack Rowan and Masali Badouza talk through what it was like to film some of their favourite (and most intense!) scenes from the series.
